Commercial Tracking Solutions

Logisticians – be they working in the military or commercial sectors – share the same over-arching aim which is to ensure the right cargo gets to the right place as quickly as possible. Related to this is the challenge of monitoring exceptions; those events when the cargo is delayed, lost or stolen. SCT helps meet both this aim and this challenge with real-time tracking combined with a security sensor that alerts the system and user to unauthorised opening of the truck or container.

Tracking information from sensors is sent to the SCT software platform (CMA) where it is processed to provide users with a dashboard view of where their assets and cargo are and provides reports that allow for proactive management of the supply chain; for example, alerting for delays that would allow for arrangements to be made to use alternative routing.

CMA is ideally suited for Government and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) moving cargo in areas where the risk of theft, damage and delay is high. As well as tracking the cargo, CMA users tag their logistic assets such as ISO Shipping containers in order to maintain fleet visibility of these high value items.

There are a variety of options for tagging high value assets with tracking devices; SCT will select and recommend devices based on a detailed study of the requirement, for example an asset may only move about within a port area and there may be an electromagnetic spectrum restriction that prevents the use of GPS and in this case an active RFID tag may be the best option. Alternatively an asset such as a Reefer Container that moves large distances would require a GPS device that reports back to the CMA server via the mobile phone (GPRS) network. SCT provides value here because the SCT Consultants are experts in this technology and they will select the best device for the use case and are completely agnostic in their choice of hardware manufacturer.

Experience of tracking cargo elsewhere in the world has proven the value of security monitoring as real-time awareness of theft or delays enables the shipper to take immediate action to satisfy the demand rather than discovering an issue upon eventual arrival at the destination.
The main value however comes when the tracking devices report back to the CMA software. CMA maps the location, plots the data against geo-fenced routes and locations to ensure the asset or cargo is in the right place and provides the user with an overview via the Dashboard, a sample of which is shown here:

The Dashboard view is configurable for each user so that management can focus on an overview of all assets or in-transit cargo and users at the Port or consignee location can monitor in-bound cargo. Each location report is mapped so that the user can drill down to a detailed view via the embedded map software.

The CMA software is able to interface with systems of record such as ERP packages and can automate the recording of delivery for cargo thus enabling faster, accurate, auditable receipting and accounting action.
