SCT Technology Adds Logistic Asset Tracking To It's CMA Software Package
London, 3 June 2020 Users of SCT Technology’s CMA software will soon be in receipt of a new capability as part of this summer’s release of version 8.3. CMA is designed to track in-transit assets moving as Transport Packages and Shipments – as defined by GS1 – using RFID and GPS sensors CMA enables users to manage and control assets moving from consignors to consignees. An important and valuable component of the in-transit supply chain has always been the logistic assets involved in the asset movement – the shipping containers, pallets and special-to-type containers for example. CMA 8.3 will introduce a Logistic Asset Tracking (LAT) function that will allow users to tag and monitor these expensive items as a fleet versus the journey and shipment tracking used for the assets in-transit. So, why is LAT important? Firstly, we hear from our military customers that a primary need with regards to logistic assets is to ensure that the assets are available in the right quantities in the right place when needed. Secondly, military users of CMA share a primary objective of commercial users in wishing to minimise unnecessary costs. Using the example of ISO Shipping Containers, militaries across NATO tend to have a mix of owned and rented containers – the latter incurring rental charges so minimising the rental fleet is always a good idea; to do so, however, you need to know where they are. So, CMA’s new LAT capability will enable containers to be permanently tagged – with RFID sensors for example – so that a fleet visibility picture can be built up as these assets move within the supply chain. In addition, CMA will allow for logistic assets to be assigned to Shipments so that asset utilization can be monitored – savings can be made once you can see that of a fleet of, say, 100 containers, that only 65 were used over the past 12 months. CMA with its LAT functionality in terms of visibility and utilisation reports means that users can look to make better informed procurement decisions (do we still need more containers this year?), have more accurate stock reports per site and monitor where losses occur by site and user. This new functionality being added to CMA is another example of how SCT Technology works to continuously improve CMA for the benefit of users – the provision of actionable intelligence to improve asset visibility for our military and commercial customers.
